Chinese Consortium Plan Newcastle Takeover Bid After Rafa Benitez Secured Premier League Return

Owner Mike Ashley has received significant international investment interest in recent weeks, including one party from China.

It is understood Ashley, who has reportedly tried to sell the north-east club twice in the past, is now considering all options open to him.

Back in Ocotober there were reports of interest from China of a potential takeover of the Magpies.

And it seems after Rafa Benitez guided the club back to the Premier League last season, Newcastle are once again the subject of a possible takeover.

Any proposed deal would prove difficult though with current owner Ashley having been in charge for over 10 years now.

Huge investment from a Chinese consortium could help Benitez go a long way with his transfer spending plans this summer.

Benitez will be well aware of the transfers they need to make in order to ensure they aren’t involved in a relegation battle next season.

Back in April, the Newcastle Chronicle claimed Benitez could have up to £100m to spend in the transfer window.

The club were relegated to the Championship last summer and came up at the first time of asking, winning the Championship title by a point over Brighton.

Should the Chinese consortium successfully negotiate a takeover, they will become the second Chinese owners in the Premier League alongside those at West Brom, while the Chinese consortium CMC owns a 13 per cent stake in .

Championship clubs Aston Villa, Birmingham City and Wolves also have Chinese owners.
