Napoli & Roma Set Eyes On Man Utd Defender Darmian As Jose Ready To Sell Flop
Darmian was not in the Man Utd squad for their league opener against Bournemouth on Sunaday. It is believed that both the Serie A sides are set to launch a bid for Darmian after he struggled to hold on to his form at Manchetser United, last season.
The 26-year-old defender joined Manchetser United from Torino last season, for a transfer fee of £12.7m. Darmian made a flying start to his Premier League career last season but failed to build up on the momentum towards the end.
After Mourinho’s arrival, it is believed that the Italian player does not fit into Man Utd’s plans for the new season, and could be shown the exit before the summer transfer window closes.
Darmian grabbed 28 appearances in Man Utd’s last EPL season along with 11 appearances in all other European and domestic competitions. He also scored a goal back in April while playing at home against Crystal Palace.
Napoli are desperate to add more depth to their defence and sources confirm that the Serie A club have set eyes on Darmian in order to solve their defensive problems. Napoli have already secured the signatures of Arkadiusz Milik, Piotr Zielinksi, Emanuele Giaccherini and central-defender Lorenzo Tonelli.
Meanwhile, AS Roma are also keen on signing Darmian, as a replacement for Mattia de Sciglio, who has been heavily linked with a summer move to Liverpool.
Darmian made four appearances for Italy at Euro 2016 and was one of the players who missed a crucial penalty in the high-octane quarter-final against Germany – which ended in penalty shootouts.
