Arsenal and Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has signed a new loan deal and is set to re-join AS Roma, according to the club’s official website.

Szczesny was earlier loaned out to AS Roma last season, after the arrival of Petr Cech at the Emirates. The Czech goalkeeper has been Arsene Wenger’s first choice in the last Premier League season, and it was expected that Szczesny would opt for a summer move in search of first team action.

Foottheball sources claim that the Polish goalkeeper completed his medical on Thursday and it is believed that the new loan deal do not allow the Serie A club to make the transfer a permanent one.

Reports confirm that AS Roma signed Szczesny for a loan fee of £840,000, and his new wage packet at the Italian club is the region of £46,000-a-week.

“I’m fine, and I’m happy to be back,” said Szczesny after landing in the capital.

Szczesny’s career at Arsenal began as youth prospect, in the year 2006. After proving his mettle, he earned a spot in the first team and made his Premier League debut in 2009.

After completing his loan spell at Brentford, Szczesny clinched a permanent spot in the Gunners squad and spent 5 seasons at Arsenal. Things took an ugly turn, when he was caught smoking after a humiliating 2-0 defeat to Southampton.

Things got worse for Szczesny after Arsenal signed Petr Cech from Chelsea. Wenger made it clear that the Czech goalkeeper would be his first choice, leaving Szczesny with no other option, but to join AS Roma on loan last season.

“I’m very happy. After a good season last year I had possibility of coming back and I was very happy that the coach wanted me. I’m delighted to be back and I hope that we can improve on what we did last season,” said Szczesny.
