Colombia will face Paraguay in Tuesday’s Centenario Copa America Group A clash at Rose Bowl, Pasadena.
Colombia will be high on confidence after defeating USA 2-0 in their opening game and will look to hold on to the form against Paraguay on Tuesday.
Zapata gave them the lead in the eight minute against USA and later Real Madrid star James Rodriguez put the game to bed from a spot kick before the half time.
However an injured Rodriguez can pose some problems for Jose Pekerman’s side.
James Rodriguez suffered a dislocation in his left shoulder during their opening match against USA on Saturday. It is believed that Pekerman would not risk playing the star midfielder in Tuesday’s clash against Paraguay.
Dayro Moreno or Edwin Cardona could be the potential replacements for Rodriguez in Tuesday’s match and commenting on this issue assistant boss Nestor Lorenzo said,”Beyond the speculation on whether James will play or not – we will see how he progresses – I would rather talk about the characteristics of Dayro.”
“Dayro Moreno has penetration and good pace that allows us to use him as a playmaker. We think he is a versatile player – he can also help us playing further back,” he added.
Attacking midfielder Cardona said, “The responsibility to replace James is for everyone. We know the quality he has and what he means to us and for the national team. It makes our game easier when you are next to him for the quality he has.
“If I get chosen to play in that position I will do so for the benefit of my team. Of course, we have different characteristics, with James we have more ball possession, he concluded.
A victory in Tuesday’s clash will confirm Colombia’s advance to the knock-out stage.
On the contrary Paraguay this is a do or die situation and they would be desperate to clinch a victory against Colombia after a goalless draw against Costa Rica in their opening game.
“If I analyze the game, the team that should’ve had the three points was us. We lost two points – that’s how I feel,” said Paraguay manager Ramon Diaz.
Looking into the recent past, with just one win in last five and two in last 10 matches it is believed that Paraguay might end as the losing side against Colombia. A defeat for Paraguay in Tuesday’s match will make it very difficult for Diaz’s side to earn a spot in the last eight.
