“We are delighted to have retained Elano as our marquee player for the second season,” Xinhua quoted Chennaiyin CEO Ashish Shah as saying on Wednesday.
“Elano was in an outstanding form from the very start of the tournament last time and inspired the rest of the team with both his performances and presence.
“We look forward to having a successful second season and the enormous experience and quality of Elano will be vital for us in achieving that goal,” Shah on the club’s website.
Capped 50 times for Brazil, Elano is currently tied to Santos, who he helped win the Sao Paulo state championship in April.
“I am thrilled to sign for Chennaiyin FC to play in the second season of the ISL,” said the former Manchester City player.
