The match was always going to be competitive when it came to fans, as both Switzerland and Albania consist of players who were either born in the rival nation or have spent a significant amount of time there.

Switzerland were the favorites to win on the pitch as the forever neutral country boasted of some very big names, including the likes of Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri.

The Swiss started the match with a bang with a Fabian Schar header giving them the lead.

The Swiss dominated the game for the first 20 minutes, but the Albanians came back strong with constant attacks on the Swiss goal, but failed to find the net.

Albania were pushed on the back-seat after their captain Lorik Cana was sent-off after receiving a second yellow-card for a handball in the 37th minute.

Switzerland went in the second half leading 1-0, with Albania one man down and it seemed like it would be a cake-walk for the Swiss but the Albanians came back determined to fight till the end.

Albania dominated the second half, creating opportunities regularly.

Albania dominated the possession in the second half and had some very near opportunities missed.

Albania’s Shkelzen Gashi missed a one-on-one chance in the 87th minute after a brilliant save by Yann Sommer.

Albania managed to create some chances in the additional 3 minutes, but could not finish them, giving Switzerland a 1-0 win.
