Everton Fire Martinez, Frank de Boer Favourite To Replace Him

Roberto MartinezEnglish premiership club Everton sacked manager Roberto Martinez Thursday after his side finished 12th in the League.

It came after a dismal few days for the Blues, bringing an end to Martinez’s three year rule at Goodison Park in Liverpool.

Last weekend they travelled to Leicester, and were hammered 3-1, with their humiliation being worsened by watching the celebrations as Leicester collected their trophy for their “miracle” win of the championship.

That loss was compounded last night when Everton travelled to North East England to be beaten 3-0 by Sunderland.

Everton have won only five league games at home this season, finishing with their lowest number of points since 1981.

In a statement issued just before 5pm Thursday Everton said: “Everton Football Club regrets to announce that Roberto Martinez has left his position as First Team Manager with immediate effect.

“The Chairman and the Board of Directors would like to place on record their thanks for the dedication and commitment Roberto has shown during his three seasons with the Club.”

Later in another announcement Everton announced that its end-of-season award’s night, due to taking place this evening, has been cancelled.

Martinez joined Everton after a stunning career as the manager of Wigan, taking them to FA club glory, beating Manchester City 1-0 at Wembley in 2013.
