Indian Super League club Delhi Dynamos have announced the signing of Italian star Gianluca Zambrotta as their new manager for the third season of the league.

39-year-old Zambrotta was in Italy’s World Cup Winning squad and had made his managerial debut as a player-cum-aasistant coach for the Swiss club Chiasso and later was promoted to the position of head coach in the year 2014. He had to step down from his managerial duties after Chiasso decided to part ways with the Italian in April, 2015.

Delhi Dynamos had Real Madrid legend Roberto Carlos as their manger last year, who guided the team to the semi-finals, but they failed to reach the finals after losing to FC Goa.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Delhi Dynamos confirmed roping in the services of Gianluca Zambrotta on a two-year deal.

“I will give my absolute best to the team and will also love to learn about Indian culture. My focus will be on good defence system and team coordination, “said Zambrotta.

Zambrotta also said that he is elated at the new opportunity to mentor the Delhi Dynamo squad and assured that he will give his best to win the trophy in his debut season.

Zambrotta made 98 appearances for Italy, including three European Championships and three World Cups. He had a reputation of a rock-solid defender, he played top flight European clubs like Juventus, Barcelona and Milan.
