Manchester United have announced Jose Mourinho as their new manager.

The Portugese replaces his former boss Louis Van Gaal who was sacked on the 23rd, just two days after winning the FA Cup.

The announcement was made on the clubs official website with a statement from both the club and the manager.

In the statement, Mourinho said: “To become Manchester United manager is a special honour in the game. It is a club known and admired throughout the world. There is a mystique and a romance about it which no other club can match.

“I have always felt an affinity with Old Trafford; it has hosted some important memories for me in my career and I have always enjoyed a rapport with the United fans. I’m looking forward to being their manager and enjoying their magnificent support in the coming years.”

Mourinho’s name was linked with United since December just after he was sacked by Chelsea, and he was widely tipped to replace Louis Van Gaal at Old Trafford.

United had a good start to the season and were top of the table in October, but an injury crisis led the team into trouble and finally cost the Dutch manager his job.

Jose’s arrival will boost Manchester United’s chances of landing Swedish superstar Zlatan Ibrahimovic this summer on a free transfer from PSG, where his contract is set to expire .
