Premier League Champions Leicester City has officially signed a new 5-year contract with goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel.

The new contract will keep the player at the club until 2021. Schmeichel played a pivotal role in Leicester City’s historic title win last season. The 29-year-old goalkeeper played every minute in all the 38 league games and clinched 15 clean sheets to his name.

An official statement from the club states: “Leicester City are delighted to announce that Kasper Schmeichel has committed his future to the Football Club by signing a new five-year contract until 2021.”

“The 29-year-old Denmark international played every minute of Leicester City’s historic 2015/16 Premier League winning campaign and has been a key member of the squad since his arrival in the summer of 2011.”

Speaking to LCFC TV, Schmeichel said: “I’m just buzzing and I can’t wait for the season to get started,” the 29-year-old said to LCFC TV.

“It was a very easy decision.”

“It was a case of coming back after winning the Premier League and making sure that the hunger was the same within myself and the squad.”

“I’ve come back absolutely convinced that this is the place for me to be.”

“We’ve taken some massive steps and ever since I arrived it’s been fantastic. I’ve loved being here from minute one.”

Earlier, last month Jamie Vardy was highly linked with a move to Aesenal, but the English forward snubbed the rumoured move to Emirates and chose to stay at Leicester.

Speaking to the media about his decision to stay put at Leicester, Jamie Vardy said: “It’s not been put out there that I’ve always said the boys that close in, the brotherhood is unbelievable.”

“For me personally there’s a lot of unfinished business here at Leicester and I think the club’s only going one way and that’s forward and that’s what I wanted to be part of.”

Riyad Mahrez

Another Leicester star Riyad Mahrez is expected to make a summer switch to Arsenal, according to reports. However, Ranieri has revealed that he is confident that Mahrez will reject Arsenal’s offer and stick to the club but Wenger’s presence at Leicester City’s recent International Champions Cup loss against Paris Saint-Germain may point towards a possible summer move.
