Red Devils boss Jose Mourinho was elated after Marouane Fellaini scored in Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Hull City in the EFL Cup semi-final first leg clash.
Mourinho’s side are now one step closer to the EFL Cup final at Wembley after Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini scored on Monday to clinch a 2-0 win over Marco Silva’s side.
For the Belgian midfielder Fellaini, it was a blessing in disguise after struggling to prove his mettle in their Premier League campaign so far.
Manchester United fans were left frustrated after Fellaini’s sloppy performance had robbed them of three clear points against Everton last month. The Belgian midfielder has so far failed to impress the Man Utd faithful this season.
But the Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has stood by Fellaini and has handed him 21 appearances in all competitions this term.
After scoring the second goal for Manchester United on Monday three minutes from time, Fellaini ran straight to Jose Mourinho and hugged him on the sideline.
And while talking in the post-match interview, Mourinho accentuated that it was a show of thanks from Fellaini, who was grateful for the amount of faith and belief the Portuguese had shown in the Belgian.
Mourinho said: “I think he wanted to show that he knows how much I supported him in a couple of difficult moments for him,” said the United boss.”
“It was probably because I told him you are going to score the second goal, I don’t know.”
“It was nice for him to score in front of the fans and the second goal that can be an important goal.”
The Belgian midfielder would now look forward to make an appearance in Man Utd’s crucial clash with arch rivals Liverpool on Sunday.
Manchester United are currently sixth in the Premier League table and two points behind fifth placed Arsenal and ten points off current league leaders Chelsea.
