De Gea’s Move To Real Madrid In Limbo Due To ‘Late’ Paperwork, FIFA May Look Into The Matter

David De Gea will be staying at Manchester United and not going to Real Madrid after all. But it won’t be for the lack of trying on all sides.

David De Gea’s move to Spain was almost done but apparently the deal fell through because the paperwork wasn’t submitted on time. The transfer window in Spain closed without a deal announced for the expected move of Man United goalkeeper to Real.

It is being said that FIFA will look into the De Gea deal later on Tuesday. Both Real Madrid and United are said to want the deal to go through but La Liga are adamant the paperwork did not arrive on time.

Madrid and United had been negotiating a deal that included Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas moving the other way, but the Real apparently failed to register the paperwork with the Spanish league offices before midnight local time.

If the deal falls through, De Gea could be forced to return to United despite having been dropped from the team by manager Louis van Gaal as the talks dragged on. Van Gaal has said De Gea had his heart set on a move back to his hometown.

It was unclear whether the clubs would appeal to league authorities or FIFA in an attempt to push the deal through.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur were reportedly considering a final bid for West Bromwich Albion’s Saido Berahino in an attempt to bring the striker to White Hart Lane.
