Maradona To Stand For FIFA Presidency
According to South American media, Diego Maradona has finally decided to step up to the plate and fight the election for FIFA’s presidency.
Uruguayan broadcaster and author Victor Hugo Morales has said that Maradona has always criticised the methods of the former FIFA president Sepp Blatter and now he has decided to take over the vacant position for the betterment of World Football.
Morales tweeted that he had called up the Argentinian football legend to inquire about the health of his sick father. He says that Maradona expressed his intentions to file a candidature for FIFA presidency and told him to confirm the news.
Another Brazilian footballing legend Zico has also announced that he is standing as a candidate for the FIFA presidency. Under FIFA statutes a candidate requires support from the federations from five countries and Maradona can find it difficult to meet the requirement.
It is anticipated that the ballot will be held later this year or at the beginning of 2016. Another candidate who is set to fight the election is Liberia Football Association’s Chairman Musa Bility.
