It was no surprise in this clash as Barcelona beat BATE Borisov 3-0 to put a foot in the Champions League knockout stages at Camp Nou.
With the win, Barca is now five points clear at the top of Group E.
Last month’s meeting between these two teams was about as one-sided as it gets, and BATE once again struggled to gain anything even resembling a foothold in their trip to Catalonia on Wednesday.
Barcelona in the last encounter did feel the missing presence of star player Messi but the latest clash has put that feeling to a rest for now.
BATE kept the game alive with their trademark resistance though were quickly overpowered.
Bayern Munich vs Arsenal 5-1
What goes around, comes around and so it was for Arsenal when Bayern Munich sealed their revenge by thrashing the London club 5-1 and pushing Wenger’s team to the brink of elimination.
Bayern Munich now tops Group F with 9 points, with the only defeat at the hands (or legs in this case) of Arsenal two weeks ago.
Arsenal will lick its wound and is expected to win with a comfortable goal margin to remain in the league.
The Reds were in trouble from the very beginning with Lewnadowski header in the 10th minute of the game. Seeking a fight back, Ozil kicked in for Arsenal but alas was booked for a handball.
Muller scored twice for Bayern along with one each from Alaba, Robben and Giroud.
Chelsea vs Dynamo Kyiv 2-1
A bit of repreive for Chelsea who are struggling in the Premier League with rumours spreading of Jose Mourinho’s dismissal.
Playing at home and for pride, Chelsea beat Ukrainian champions Dynamo Kyiv 2-1 with the crowds giving a stand ovation to the ‘Special One’.
Mourinho, who has led Chelsea to three English titles but whose future has been the subject of intense speculation for weeks after a string of defeats, said he was more moved than he was by the welcome he received when he started his second stint at the club in 2013.
“Today it comes in a moment where the results are not good, it comes in a moment where you are asking for my end,” the Portuguese coach told reporters.
“This is quite unbelievable what they tried to say today. They tried to say we want you here and they probably want to say to all of you ‘let him work’ and it’s a fantastic feeling.”
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich gave Mourinho his public backing a month ago, after a home defeat to Southampton in the Premier League.
Having won the Premier League last season at a canter, Chelsea are currently 15th, just four points above the relegation zone.
