Barcelona Make Their Move For Arsenal Contract Rebel Mesut Ozil By Launching First Transfer Bid

Published on:

Barcelona have launched an offer for Arsenal contract rebel Mesut Ozil as they are eyeing to rope him in during the January transfer window, according to reports.

Ozil has refused to sign a new contract at Arsenal

Barcelona has now been heavily linked with a move for Ozil as a deal for Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho is unlikely to go through.

Barcelona were desperate to sign Coutinho over the summer but despite repeated attempts the La Liga giants failed to convince the Reds to sell their most prized asset.

The Brazilian had handed in an official transfer request but Liverpool turned down Barcelona’s three back-to-back bids for Coutinho and he ended up remaining at Anfield and has now displayed good form for the Premier League club this season.

Coutinho has been linked with a move to PSG

According to reports, PSG are in pole position to sign Coutinho in January.

And now Spanish website Don Balon claims that Barcelona have made Ozil their top target as the German star would be available at a much cheaper price given his current contract with the Gunners set to run out at the end of the season.

The report also say that Barca boss Ernesto Valverde is ready to offer Andre Gomes as a part of a deal for Ozil.

Gomes arrived at the Nou Camp last summer but he has failed to impress and it is understood that the Portugal midfielder will be sold in January.

Gomes has failed match the standards at Barcelona

And the Barca bosses want Gomes to move to Arsenal as part of a swap plus cash deal for Ozil in January.

Don Balon also claim that Barcelona understand that Ozil will become a free agent next summer and so they will not break the bank for the German star.

They want Arsenal to accept a transfer bid of £17million and Gomes or risk losing Ozil for free next summer.

Barcelona want Ozil in January

However, Arsene Wenger claimed yesterday that both Ozil and Alexis Sanchez want to stay at the North London club.

“I am convinced they love the club and love the team, but all the rest will be decided – when? I don’t really know,” said Wenger.

“I believe they love the club and want to stay, but there are other top clubs out there who offer good contracts as well.”
