Jose Mourinho opted to try out a two-man strike force and it worked perfectly as planned. Lukaku opened the scoring for United in the 37th minute and Rashford doubled the lead two minutes later as the Red Devils clinched a 2-0 win over arch rivals Man City in Houston.

Manchester United were clearly the dominant side and looked in better shape. The Red Devils threatened Man City down the flanks also through the middle. Guardiola’s side looked sloppy at the back and also lacked precision on the final ball.

Ederson made an inglorious start to his journey with Man City – which reminded fans about Claudio Bravo, who has gone down the pecking order after an error-prone campaign last season.

Man City also paid the price of a shaky back-four, leaving too much space inside box, with Mourinho’s men capitalising upon it to score two early goals in the first-half and leaving their opponent flabbergasted

Lukaku followed up his goal against Real Salt Lake by rounding goalkeeper Ederson, who rushed off his line, before tucking home an excellent finish on the half-volley from a tight angle to put the Red Devils in front.

Two minutes later Rashford doubled United’s lead by picking up a brilliant pass from Henrikh Mkhitaryan before firing it home below the diving Ederson.
