Man Utd’s Paul Pogba Racing Clock To Face Liverpool After Scan Confirms 4-Week Layoff With Hamstring Injury

Published on:

Paul Pogba faces a four-week layoff after picking a hamstring injury that forced him out of Manchester United’s win over Basel in their Champions League opener.

United’s return to the Champions League stage was over for Pogba after 17 minutes

Pogba underwent a scan at Man Utd’s Aon Training Complex on Wednesday and the report suggests that the French midfielder will be on the sidelines for up to a month.

Pogba picked up the hamstring injury when he stretched for the ball in the 17th minute of Man Utd’s 3-0 win over Basel in the Champions League Group A opener on Tuesday.

He was then replaced by Fellaini and later had to leave Old Trafford on crutches.

Sources close to the club said that the Frenchman will undergo an extensive treatment in order to make him match-fit as soon as possible, although the Man Utd bosses are cautious about rushing his recovery program.

Pogba made a brilliant start to this season and was also chosen as United’s Player of the Month for August, but now he will miss Man Utd’s Premier League clash with Everton at home on Sunday.

Sources reveal that Mourinho would have rested Pogba for next Wednesday’s League Cup tie at home to Championship side Burton, but now the Frenchman will not feature in United’s Champions League visit to CSKA Moscow as well as Premier League clashes with Southampton and Crystal Palace.

But boss Jose Mourinho remains hopeful that Pogba can recover in time for the high-octane Premier League clash with Liverpool at Anfield on October 14.

Man Utd prodigy Marcus Rashford admitted that Pogba’s absence will be a huge blow to Mourinho’s side but he insisted that the Red Devils have enough squad depth to cope without him.

“That’s why you have such a strong squad,” said Rashford. “But Paul’s going to be a massive miss and hopefully we can get him back fit as soon as possible.”
