Real Madrid have come out in support of their star man Cristiano Ronaldo who has been hit with tax evasion scandal.
Real issued a statement saying that “exemplary” Ronaldo must be respected amid tax evasion allegations.
Last week 12 European newspapers combined to leak alleged information about tax evasion by some of the biggest players in Europe being named in the scandal.
The leak also named super-agent Jorge Mendes as a culprit, but his firm Gestifute gave a clarification last week saying that the Portuguese superstar has complied with all tax related obligations.
Now Ronaldo’s club Real Madrid have also given the star their backing, saying that the 31-year-old is not a part of any wrong doings and the club fully stands behind him.
The club statement read, “Following the information published in the last few days and having seen the certificate published by the Tax Agency, through which it is confirmed that our player, Cristiano Ronaldo, is aware of all his tax obligations, Real Madrid demands the maximum respect for a player such as Cristiano Ronaldo, whose conduct has been absolutely exemplary during the whole of his career at our club.”
The Los Blancos are set to host German outfit Borussia Dortmund at Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.
