brazil copa america

will face Peru in the Centenario Group B encounter at the Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Sunday.

With the group stage matches nearing an end, all the top three teams in Group B – Brazil, Peru and Ecuador stand a chance to qualify for the knock-out stage. Brazil and Peru sit at the first and second spot of Group B with 4 points each, followed by Ecudor at the third spot with 2 points.

A win for five-time World Cup champions Brazil in Sunday’s clash against Peru will guarantee them a spot in the quarter-finals. Brazil had a disappointing start to their campaign as they were held to a goalless draw against Ecuador in their opening fixture.

However Dunga’s side came back strong as they thrashed Haiti 7-1 in their next game. Coutinho stole the show with an incredible hat-trick and Augusta scored twice to give Brazil a much needed boost before their concluding Group B fixture against Peru on Sunday.

Casemiro’s suspension in the last game will keep him out of Sunday’s clash as Brazil hope to outplay Peru to seal a place in the last eight.

PERU

Peru come into Sunday’s game with 4 points and stand an equal chance to qualify in the knock-out stage if they can pull up a shocker against Brazil.

Peru started their campaign with a 1-0 win over Haiti and were held to a 2-2 draw against Ecuador in their next game. Peru were unfortunate against Ecudor and should have already qualified in the last eight as they were ahead by 2 goals against Ecuador but came back strong to score two crucial goals to restrict Peru in a tie.

Looking back into history, Peru made it to the last eight in the last 7 tournaments and have clinched two titles in the past.

Ricardo Garcea is hopeful that his side can pose a strong challenge to any side in the world and counting on the recent form he believes that his team has enough potential to clinch a victory against Brazil to make it to the quarter-finals.
