Neymar Equals Real Madrid Legend Puskas’ Record In Copa Del Rey Final

Published on:

Neymar scored in his third successive Copa del Rey final for Barcelona to help the Catalans salvage some pride in an otherwise lost season.

Neymar scored Barcelona’s second goal as the Catalans clinched the Copa del Rey title to give Luis Enrique a well deserved send-off.

The Brazil skipper has equaled Real Madrid legend Frank Puskas’ record of finding the back of the net in three consecutive finals.

Barcelona won their third successive Copa – as they clinched their only trophy of the season with the win.

With Luis Suarez and Sergi Roberto both injured, Luis Enrique opted to play Paco Alcacer in attack and Javier Mascherano at right back. Neymar found the net as he cancelled Theo Hernandez’s equalizer.

It has been a long wait for the record to be equaled – with Puskas achieving the feat way back in the 60’s.

Frank scored for Real Madrid in three consecutive Copa finals from 1960 to 1962 with the Los Blancos dominating European football back in the day.

Neymar along with Messi produced another stunning performance as they steered Barcelona to their 29th King’s Cup title.

Barcelona are set to announce their new boss in the coming days with Athletic Bilbao boss Ernesto Valverde being touted as the favorite.
