Lionel Messi is all set to reject the new contract extension from Barcelona according to latest reports coming out of Catalonia.
The 29-year-old was said to be in prolonged discussions about his future at the club and the latest development has seen the La Masia graduate come to the conclusion that his future lies elsewhere.
Messi, was earlier reported to be upset with the Barcelona hierarchy for not supporting him enough during his ‘tax evasion’ case.
This summer the five-time Ballon d’Or winner was heavily linked with English super-club Chelsea after his father Jorge Horácio Messi was spotted on the Blues owner Roman Abramovich’s yacht.
Lionel Messi is said to be unhappy in Catalonia and wants to move out of Spain in order to avoid any further court matters.
FootTheBall had also reported about a phone call between Abramovich and Jorge Horácio Messi, after his visit to the former’s yacht.
However, Barcelona are said to make one last attempt to convince their biggest star to stay put at the Camp Nou.
Meanwhile, Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has also taken full advantage of the situation as the former Barcelona manager said that he would like to sign the Argentina captain to his squad if he gets the chance, adding “Maybe he will think, “okay I want to go play somewhere else” because maybe he wants his kids to speak English or live a different experience, like happened to many of us. Maybe it could happen.”
Manchester City have sounded an alert to start talks with the player as the Citizen’s prepare for the Pep era. The Citizen owners are depending on Pep Guardiola’s relationship with the 29-year-old to lure him to the Etihad stadium.
However, Chelsea are also confident of landing Lionel Messi, with Roman Abramovich having close relations with the superstars father.
The two enjoy a very healthy relationship and Abramovich has told Jorge Horácio Messi that his son is welcome at Chelsea whenever the duo decides to call it quits at the Camp Nou.
Messi has been reluctant to speak about the rumours surrounding his future at the Catalan giants, but if the Copa America finalist has made up his mind to leave the famous Spanish club, there won’t be a shortage of suitors for the superstar.
While, Manchester City are relying on Pep power to sign the dynamic magician, Chelsea are backed by Roman’s relation with his father and the Russian’s deep pockets. Both the clubs will be locked in a long battle to secure the 29-year-old’s signature but with Chelsea’s intent, the Blues are eager to break the bank for the world’s best player.
