Brazilian Keeper Ederson To Step Up Guardiola’s £300million Man City Summer Overhaul

Benfica goalkeeper Ederson is on the verge of becoming Manchester City’s second summer signing on Tuesday as Guardiola has stepped up his £300million Blues overhaul.

The Benfica keeper flew to Manchester on Monday and will complete a £35million switch to Man City after undergoing a medical on Tuesday.

Ederson’s move from Benfica to Man City for a whooping £35million will be a world record transfer fee for a goalkeeper and this will see him surpassing the £32.6million that Juventus splurged for roping in Gianluigi Buffon in 2001.

Guardiola is fond of the 23-year-old shot stopper, who is brilliant with the ball at his feet. The Spanish boss also believes that Ederson has all the potential to immediately challenge Claudio Bravo for the No. 1 spot at Man City following the departure of Willy Caballero last week.

Man City are keen on bolstering their squad and want to rope in players as early as possible before their rivals start launching moves for their already identified transfer targets. Guardiola had lined up a deal for Ederson before he helped Benfica beat Guimaraes in the Portuguese Cup Final on Sunday to clinch the double.

Ederson is set to arrive at the Etihad just days after Man City began their summer spending by roping in Portuguese star Bernardo Silva from Monaco for £43million.

And now his signing will take their spending to £78million but Man City is set to splurge more cash as much as £300million this summer – with Guardiola looking to revamp the squad to challenge for the title next season and also keeping the Champions League in mind.

In addition to Silva and Ederson, Guardiola wants to rope in two full-backs, a centre-half and his top target Alexis Sanchez.

Sanchez has just one year left on his contract at Arsenal and the Chilean wants to stay in the Premier League –with Manchester City in pole position to rope him in.

Man City are confident that a £50m offer would be enough to tempt the Gunners and pundits believe that if the Chilean wants to move away then it would be difficult for Arsenal to tie him down.

Guardiola wants to strengthen his defence and wants a top central defender to control the proceedings at the back. The Spanishboss has now identified Juventus’ Leonardo Bonucci or Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk as his top targets this summer.

Man City would have to splurge £50million for roping in the pair but they might face stiff completion from Chelsea,  as Conte is keen on landing the pair at Stamford Bridge, while Liverpool have also shown interest in van Dijk.

Foottheball sources reveal that Walker might be the first player to leave Spurs in the summer after being told that he can find himself a new club.

Manchester City are leading the race to rope in the right-back but club chairman Daniel Levy wants to hear offers from other clubs – a bidding war in the making.

The English defender wants to return to the north, which gives City a huge advantage over Chelsea and Bayern.

And it is believed that the Spurs hierarchy would demand a transfer fee of £50m for their out-of-favour defender.

Man City have also set their sights on Monaco’s Benjamin Mendy. City have started negotiating a £38million transfer deal with Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco for securing the services of the France left-back.

Mendy is Guardiola’s No.1 target at left-back but the Spanish boss has also identified Juventus’ Brazilian international Alex Sandro as a fall-back option.
