All smiles back then…

Ryan Giggs is set to quit his 29 year long career at Manchester United.

According to Daily Mail, the Welshman rejected an offer of a reduced coaching role under new manager Jose Mourinho, confirming some rumours that Giggs believes Old Trafford have reneged a deal for the top job after serving under David Moyes and Louis van Gaal.

Giggs’s representatives are now in negotiations with United over a pay-off for the final year of his contract.

Giggs made a club-record 963 appearances for United after joining the club on his 14th birthday in 1987, and went on to win the Champions League twice, 13 Premier League titles and the FA Cup four times.

The 42-year-old will start a brief stint as an ITV pundit at Euro 2016 on Thursday but wants to move into club management.

FootTheBall sources confirm that the Manchester United legend is on the brink of taking charge at Nottingham Forest as a full-time manager.

The report also claims Mourinho is yet to speak directly with Giggs over his future and there could still be a small chance the Portuguese persuades him to stay.

The surprising lack of contact with Mourinho also suggests there is little appetite on the new manager’s behalf to keep a fans’ favourite who made a club record 963 appearances for United.

Giggs has been keeping a low profile, and spent a fortnight in Dubai last month considering his future.
