WOLFSBURG VS DORTMUND

With just four matches of the Bundesliga season remaining, Volkswagen Arena home of VfL Wolfsburg will play host to Dortmund. Dortmund sit fifth in the Bundesliga table, five points behind Wolfsburg and four points of the last Champions League spot, occupied by Eintracht Frankfurt.

Coming from a 3-1 win away to VfB Stuttgart, Wolfsburg will have hopes of securing all three points and strengthening their position for qualification to the Champions League next season.

 

 

Standing in their way Edin Terzic’s side, are on a three-game winning run will be looking to negotiate one final push for the Champions League spot.

Borussia Dortmund won their previous meeting with Wolfsburg 2-0 at home in January of this year. BVB are on a run of five straight victories and are unbeaten in eleven consecutive head to head clashes. Ten of those matched have been wins. On top of that, the Wolves have been unable to score in any of the last eight matches, with their last goals coming in back-to-back 5-1 defeats in 2016.

 

TEAM NEWS

The return of both full backs Jerome Roussillon and Kevin Mbabu from injury will strengthen the Wolves backline. Renato Steffen will be ruled out till may with an ankle injury.

Probable Lineups: Casteels, Baku, Pongracic, Brooks, Rousillon, Schalger, Arnold, Brekalo, Phillip, Gerhardt, Weghorst.

 

 

Dortmund will be boosted with the return of Jadon Sancho who came of the bench to replace Thorgan Hazard in the 59th minute. Axel Witsel, Marcel Schmelzer, Dan-Axel Zagadou and Youssoufa Moukoko are all long term absentees with serious injuries.

GAME CHANGERS

Wolfsburg will rely on their top scorer Wout Weghorst to secure their first win against Dortmund in 11 games. The Dutch striker has scored 22 goals in all competitions this season with 20 coming in the Bundesliga. His pace and quality will prove to be a cause for headache to the Dortmund defence.

 

 

The return of Jadon Sancho springs new life in this Dortmund side. Dortmund will look for Sancho ‘s technicality and club top scorer Erling Haaland goal scoring prowess to secure all three points away to Wolfsburg.

The Champions League’s youngest goal scorer Jude Bellingham will continue to orchestrate the midfield for Dortmund. The Englishman has had a breakthrough season and has been a mainstay in this Dortmund side.

 

PREDICTION

Both teams looking to secure the Champions League spots, Dortmund will look to impose the psychological edge over a side that hasn’t beaten them in the last eleven games.
