Chelsea Legend John Terry Extends Contract With The Blues For One More Season

Putting an end to all rumours and speculations, Chelsea defender and Captain John Terry has signed a new one-year contract with the Blues.

Earlier the Blues captain had revealed that there would be no fairytale ending for him at the Stamford Bridge as the Club had no intention to extend the contract and stop the captain from leaving the ship. Terry joined Chelsea at an age of 14 and his first preference was always to stay at the club only if his contract would be extended.

The contract extension means that the upcoming season will be Terry’s 22nd year in the club. He joined the club at an age of 14 and since then the ace defender has featured in 703 matches, the third highest in the club’s history and has set a club record by appearing in 570 matches as a captain.

With the previous contract running out this summer, the England and Chelsea defender expected to leave the club in search of a new place to reboot his career. Chelsea fans were in doubt as runours were high that Terry would move to Chinese Super League. However putting an end to all rumours, the 35-year old accepted the offer of a contract extension till the 2016-17 EPL season after meeting the chairman Bruce Buck and the director Marina Granovskaia.

The Club announced in a tweet – “Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce John Terry has signed a new one-year contract.”

“I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I’m Chelsea through and through,” Terry said.

“I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and hopefully we can make it a successful one.

“Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You’re the best in the world,” said the ace defender.
The Club Chairman Bruce Buck said: “We are delighted John will spend another year at the club. He has been the leader of the Chelsea squad throughout the most successful period in our history.

“He recently reached the 700-appearance mark, which is testament to his professionalism and dedication as well as his undoubted talent.”

Talking about the new contract extension, the director Marina Granovskaia said, “We look forward to another year with John at the club, and believe he will be an important figure in the dressing room and on the pitch as we look to bring success back to the club next season.”

While when we ponder upon Terry’s journey at Chelsea, the 35-year old defender has a trophy cabinet worth boasting about. He won the Champions League, Europa League, four Premier Leagues, five FA Cups and three League Cups and has been named Chelsea Player of the Year twice. Terry was consistent to make it to the FIFPro World XI teams five times in a row.
