Football star Cristiano Ronaldo said he is willing to give financial support to Madeira, after several wildfires hit the Portuguese holiday island, local media reported Wednesday.
The fires, which begun on Monday, have killed at least three and caused around a thousand people to leave their homes.
Ronaldo also expressed solidarity with his home island on social media networks. “It is with a tight heart that I witness what is happening in Madeira (and other parts of the country). I wish a lot of strength to all and thank you to the fighters who are brave enough to risk their lives to save so many others. I am with you!” he wrote.
According to SIC news broadcaster, the Real Madrid player, originally from the Madeira island, had a telephone conversation with the President of the Regional Government Miguel Albuquerque and expressed his solidarity with the dire situation.
