Nigeria Unveil 30-Man Provisional Squad For FIFA World Cup

Nigeria head coach Gernot Rohr has named the country’s league leading top scorers Junior Lokosa and Simeon Nwankwo as the new faces in the 30-man provisional list for the FIFA World Cup.

Kano Pillars forward Lokosa recording 18 goals as at Match day 21 is getting his first call up as well as Italian Serie A side Crotone’s striker Nwankwo.

A quintuple of Leon Balogun, Wilfred Ndidi, Etebo Oghenekaro, Joel Obi and Tyrone Ebuehi who are recuperating from injury also made the lists.

The team is scheduled to take on DR Congo on May 28, before moving out to England to take on Three Lions in Wembley stadium on June 2 and the Czech Republic on June 6.

Nigeria has been drawn into Group D with Argentina, Iceland and Croatia in the upcoming World Cup.

The 30-man list

GOALKEEPERS: Ikechukwu Ezenwa (Enyimba), Daniel Akpeyi (Chippa United), Francis Uzoho, (Deportivo de La Coruna) and Dele Ajiboye (Plateau United).

DEFENDERS: William Troost-Ekong (Bursaspor), Leon Balogun (Mainz 05), Olaoluwa Aina (Chelsea), Kenneth Omeruo (Kasimpasa), Bryan Idowu (Amkar Perm), Chidozie Awaziem (Nantes), Abdullahi Shehu (Bursaspor), Elderson Echiejile (Cercle Brugge), Tyronne Ebuehi (ADO Den Haag) and Stephen Eze (Lokomotiv Plovdiv).

MIDFIELDERS: John Obi Mikel (Tianjin Teda), Ogenyi Onazi (Trabzonspor), John Ogu (Hapoel Beer Sheva), Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City), Uche Agbo (Standard Liege), Oghenekaro Etebo (Las Palmas), Joel Obi (Torino) and Mikel Agu (Bursaspor).

FORWARDS: Odion Ighalo (Changchun Yatai), Ahmed Musa (CSKA Moscow), Victor Moses (Chelsea), Alex Iwobi (Arsenal), Kelechi Iheanacho (Leicester City), Moses Simon (Gent), Junior Lokosa (Kano Pillars) and Simeon Nwankwo (Crotone).
