Arsenal Target Alexandre Lacazette Hints At Lyon Exit
Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette has made it clear that he would make a switch this summer if the Ligue 1 club receive a tempting offer from the right club.
Arsenal has been busy this summer in the search for a top flight striker in order to bolster their attack in the new season. Earlier, foottheball sources had confirmed that the Gunners lodged a €35million bid for the 25-year-old, but Lyon turned down the offer.
Later the Ligue 1 side did confirm that they had received an offer of €35million, which they have turned down, as they see the forward as ‘irreplaceable’.
However, it is believed that Arsene Wenger is keen on bringing the French striker to Emirates this summer in order to add more depth to his attacking options. The Gunners received a huge boost after the player himself asserted that he wants to leave the club if a tempting offer comes through.
Lacazette had good last season with 21 league goals to his name and has made a flying start to new Ligue 1 season by scoring a hat-trick in his side’s 3-0 win over Nancy on the opening weekend.
When asked about his future at Lyon, the 25-year-old striker said: “”If there are offers that can’t be refused, I’d like to not refuse them.”
The player mentioned that he was happy at Lyon and spoke about his hat-trick against Nancy to show his dedication and loyalty towards his present club.
“But I’m very comfortable at Lyon. The proof was there today that I was in the right state of mind,” he explained.
“I scored three goals – I’m pleased. With my teammates, everything is going well. So for me all is well.”
When questioned about offers coming his way, Lacazette smiled and told the interviewer to “ask the president.”
Gunners manager Arsene Wenger had revealed that he is the hunt for a striker this summer, but has only signed Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka and central-defender Rob Holding. Wenger had earlier set eyes on Vardy but the Leicester star snubbed a move to Arsenal and signed a new long-term contract with the Foxes.
Next on Wenger’s wish list was Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku. However both Zinidene Zidane and Everton boss Ronald Koeman held on to their star strikers which shattered Wenger’s move to add immediate reinforcements to his attack.
Arsenal made a disappointing start to their Premier League campaign as they lost to 4-3 to Liverpool. Wenger had to promote attacking midfielder Alexis Sanchez at the top to solve his attacking problems. It is believed that Wenger has felt the urgency of signing a new striker after their shock home defeat, with rumours claiming that the Gunners are now desperate to secure the signatures of Lacazette to add strength to their lack-lusture attack.
