Real Madrid Forward Gareth Bale Confident Ahead Of Champions League Final Clash Against Atletico
Two years ago Bale was on target as Real Madrid beat Atletico 4-1 after extra time and he is looking to win his second Champions League since joining the club.
“All we are doing at the moment is thinking about winning the game,” said Bale on Spanish radio station, Cadena Ser early on Wednesday morning.
The striker insisted that Real Madrid have “better players in every position,” than their rivals, but also commented “it doesn’t matter who is the favorite. We don’t think that favorites exist, that is something for the media.”
Bale admitted that it was not easy to play against Atletico’ s tough and well drilled midfield and defense.
“I would rather play with space. In general footballers prefer that. Atletico are a very physical side and we hope to be able to deal with them,” he said, adding that it would not be a question of trying to break their rivals down.
“We will have to defend in the final, but that is something we have improved on in recent months. We attack and defend as a team,” Bale explained.
Atletico coach Diego Simeone has already begun the pre-match war of nerves by saying he expected Real Madrid to play on the break, something Bale denied.
“I am certain Simeone has his ideas, but we still don’ t know how we are going to play. I suppose the way we play depends on how the game is going, but we have the players necessary whether we play on the break or try to keep the ball,” said the striker.
