UEFA EURO 2016 : Late Extra-Time Ricardo Quaresma Strike Ousts Croatia As Portugal Confirm Quarter Final Berth

Published on:

Portugal are through to the quarter finals after they beat Croatia 1-0 in the Round of 16 match at the Stade Bollaert-Delelis in Lens on Sunday.

Both Portugal and Croatia failed to score in the original 90 minutes, which was a fair reflection of the game as both the teams started slow, with Portugal winning the first corner of the match in the 13th minute.

Both the teams failed to create any real chance in the first half, as the score went 0-0.

The second started the same, with both teams failing to break through and neither of them could take advantage of the oppositions defensive tactics.

The two key players for both the teams, Ronaldo for Portugal and Modric for Croatia were largely missing on the pitch as they hardly made any impact on the game.

The second half also ended without much attacks, and the game was carried forward to extra-time.

The first half of extra-time saw both the teams trying to breakthrough but with no success.

The same was the case with the second-half f extra time, and just as it was seeming like the match was heading for a penalty shootout, Ricardo Quaresma scored for Portugal with a header from a very close range, finding the bottom left corner following a fast break in the 117th minute.

Croatia were left devastated after the goal, and they failed to make a late comeback.
