Abramovich Holds Crisis Talks With Chelsea Officials Until 1 am After Liverpool Defeat

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich held a late-night meeting with Chelsea officials, in order to stop a second consecutive slump in the Premier League after finishing 10th in the last season.

Chelsea’s Russian owner gathered all board members and held talks until 1 am to discuss future strategies, after Friday’s shock 2-1 home defeat against Klopp’s Liverpool.

First-half goals from Dejan Lovren and Jordan Henderson helped Liverpool to clinch a 2-1 victory against Chelsea in a high-octane clash at Satmford Bridge on Friday.

Abramovich splurged a whooping £117million this summer in order to bolster his squad with fresh talents, but Chelsea failed to hold on to their undefeated run as Conte’s Blues were outplayed in the first real test this season.

A source close to the club revealed that Abramovich is desperate to avoid last season’s debacle when Chelsea finished 10th on the table and Mourinho had to be sacked. A tenth placed finish last seaon was their worst performance in Premier League since 1995-96.

Conte had identified a number of potential signings this summer, but the Italian was left frustrated after he failed to land all his transfer targets.

Conte was keen on bringing in John Stones but Man City under Guardiola managed to lure away the English defender from Everton for £47.5m. The Italian also failed to convince Kalidou Koulibaly and Alessio Romagnoli to make a switch to Stamford Bridge this summer.

It is believed that Abramovich would provide Conte with more cash in the upcoming January transfer window but he is desperate to avoid a second successive season slipping away.

New summer signing, left-back Marcos Alonso is set to make his debut and Diego Costa would be replaced by Michy Batshuayi as Chelsea lock horns with Leicester City in EFL Cup tie on Tuesday.
