Speculations regarding the future of Thibaut Courtois have been doing rounds for a while now, and the lastest comments by the Belgium international are sure to add fuel to the fire.
Courtois told a Spanish radio this week that he will be staying at Chelsea this summer ‘if nothing strange happens’.
Courtois had been very vocal about him staying at the English capital until recently, but the reports of a massive bid from Spain has made him twerk his statement.
When asked about his future Courtois said “I have three more years on my contract with Chelsea. If nothing strange happens, I will still be at Chelsea next year.”
Courtois became Chelsea’s number one goalkeeper in last season’s title winning campaign and was considered Petr Cech long term replacement, but within a year all that seems to have changed.
He missed 15 games this season due to injuries and suspensions and his back-up Asmir Begovic proved himself to be very capable of taking up the responsibilities.
Though Courtois later denied any potential transfer “I have a contract for three years, so I will say 100%. Rumours affect any club where things are going badly. People think the top players want to leave because they are not in the Champions League. Everyone knows it is our fault we will not play in that competition next year.”
