Uruguay have something to take back home as they thrashed Jamaica 3-0 in the Centenario Copa America Group C clash at the Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, on Monday.

Hernandez gave Uruguay an early lead in the 21st minute followed by an own goal from Watson after the restart and a goal from Corujo in the dying minutes to put the game to bed.

Uruguay pushed bodies forward right from the kick-off and controlled the midfield to pose repeated threats to a vulnerable Jamaica back-line.

Hernandez showed early sparks and almost scored the opener in the 7th minute. The striker split apart the Jamaican back-line and rushed towards the box to lodge a left footed shot from the centre which was safely stopped by Blake.
Minutes after that Cavani had a chance to put Uruguay ahead but his header from a corner rammed into the side netting.

The PSG forward had another golden opportunity in the 18th minute but he failed to convert. A terrible clearance form Blake gifted the ball to Cavani in the danger area but the striker lacked confidence and saw his left footed shot from the left side of the box comfortably blocked in the bottom left corner.

Hull City forward Hernandez pulled up a brilliant finish to open the account for Uruguay in the 21st minute. Lodiero played the ball into the centre of the box to pick Hernandez, who made no mistake and thumped the ball high into the back of the net.

Jamaica’s first convincing effort on goal came in the 28th minute but they lacked the finesse and failed to pull up an equaliser. Williamson set it up for McCleary just outside the box but the winger’s left footed strike was comfortably saved by Muslera.

Hernandez almost scored his second in the 36th minute after getting into the area to shoot, but Blaked displayed great reflexes to save his effort in the bottom left corner.

Uruguay maintained the pressure and made it look like a one way affair in the second as Jamaica were not even able to move past the centre with the ball.

However the Reggae boyz managed to pull a decent effort at goal in the 62nd minute. A quick build up picked McCleary, but his ambitious effort form 20 yards out went wide to the right.

Cavani looked threatening in the dying minutes but he was out of luck to have not scored from a headed effort on goal in the 64th minute which hit the post.

A disastrous own goal from Watson doubled the lead for Uruguay in the 66th minute. Lodeiro whipped in a dangerous cross to find Hernandez, whose mistimed shot bounced off the arm of Watson to find its way into the net.

A couple of efforts from Cavani hit the bar and went wide but Corujo scored the third in the 88th minute to put the game to bed with a right footed shot from close range towards the bottom left corner to beat the goalkeeper.
