Prosecutors have confirmed that a top former FIFA official has arrived in the United States to face racketeering and bribery charges.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Evan Norris told a Brooklyn judge Friday that Jeffrey Webb had been extradited from Switzerland. The prosecutor says no court date has been set for Webb.
The 50-year-old Webb was among seven FIFA officials detained in Switzerland in a case that sent shock waves through the soccer world. The rest are fighting extradition.
There was no immediate response Friday to messages left for Webb’s lawyer.
Since the indictment, Webb was banned provisionally and replaced as FIFA vice president from the North and Central American and Caribbean region. Webb also was president of the regional governing body CONCACAF. He is from the Cayman Islands.
