Indian Super League (ISL) team FC Pune City signed former Turkish international Tuncay Sanli for the 2015 edition of the league on Monday.
The 33-year-old attacking midfielder previously played for Turkish giants Fenerbahce and English clubs Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers. He has played 80 international matches for his country, scoring 22 goals.
Tuncay expressed his excitement at the new challenge in his footballing career.
“I am fascinated to be part of this new challenge. ISL is gaining tremendous popularity all over the world. I am excited to be part of this challenge,” Tuncay told IANS over the telephone on Monday.
Tuncay added that he and Pune agreed a one-year contract and he would give his all to bring glory to his new club.
“I want to make Pune ISL champions. FC Pune City has an ambitious plan to win the tournament and I am excited to be a part of it,” he said.
Tunncay was part of three Turkish Super League title-winning campaigns during his tenure at the club from 2002 to 2007.
Pune City will be coached by Englishman David Platg who welcomed Pune’s latest signing.
“Tuncay’s offensive ability and overall work rate are characteristics I admire. I’m very excited at the prospect of working with him now for the benefit of FC Pune City.”
Pune’s CEO Gaurav Modwel also expressed happiness at the development.
