A stuttering Leicester City welcomed league leaders Chelsea at the King Power Stadium. The Foxes had picked up just two points from their last two league games. On the other hand, the Blues held a three points lead at the top.

It was a pretty energetic start from both sides, with Chelsea having the best chance of the opening 10 minutes. Chilwell was set clean through on goal from a long ball over the top but blasted his shot over. However, the lead came soon after. Chilwell’s excellent corner was glanced home by Rudiger, past Schmeichel at the far post.

 

 

Leicester were really struggling to contain Chelsea’s attacks, Kante the latest be denied by Schmeichel. But the former Foxes man did not have to wait long for his goal.

James offloaded the ball to the Frenchman past the centre line and he ran and ran and ran before slotting a strike into the net. Chelsea were simply rampant, and Lookman’s disallowed goal had provided a glimmer goal in between conceding but that was as good as it got at halftime.

 

 

The home side made a double change at the break, bringing on Iheanacho and Maddison. Nevertheless, it was Chelsea having all of the ball as was in the first half. Chilwell’s powerful low shot needing Schmeichel to keep it out as the first 10 minutes transpired. The game slowed down a touch but Amartey’s shot from way out forced Mendy into the acrobatics. Maddison’ cross was headed over by Vardy as Leicester sought a way back.

 

 

Chelsea’s own changes, Ziyech and Pulisic, combined in the final third with the former sending in a low cross for the latter who poked wide. But he would have his goal soon.

Chalobah’s strong run and pass found Ziyech who bamboozled Soyuncu before finding Pulisic for the game’s third. The Blues had the ball in the net a further three times but were called offside. Maddison had a deflected shot that required Mendy to save again.

 

 

Leicester looked deflated by the end and who could blame them as Chelsea picked up a comfortable three points.

Here are the three key takeaways from the match:

 

CHELSEA COASTING ALREADY

Thomas Tuchel’s side were a different class today. Even without Romelu Lukaku, they had enough firepower in the tanks to completely overwhelm Leicester across all departments.

Chilwell was finding time and space whenever he attacked, being their most potent weapon and it was his corner leading to the opening goal. Kante added a surprising and solid second goal before Pulisic wrapped up the points.

 

 

Their defence was rarely troubled, Mendy having to stretch only once. The midfield and especially Jorginho were able to intercept everything that came across them. Chelsea already sit six points clear at the top now but it will not be any shock if the Blues remain there till the end of the season.

 

LEICESTER SINKING FAST

It is a tough time for Brendan Rodgers and co. with their recent form not providing good reading. As was the case against Arsenal, the Foxes simply failed to show up.

Their defence has been sorely missing Wesley Fofana while Soyuncu and Amartey look really out of pace as well as place. Youri Tielemans was also a big absence and their lack of goal threat was totally evident right from the off.

 

 

They were really huffing and puffing to keep ahold of the ball along with making forward moves. Rodgers knows he has to improve quickly as they are currently closer to the relegation zone than the top half.

 

NO LUKAKU, NO PROBLEM

The headline signing of the summer has been laid low but others have stepped up emphatically. There are so many options to choose from for Tuchel that facing Chelsea is a daunting opposition for any team. There could have been six or seven goals today and there should have been, to be honest.
