Football has had its share of controversies, here are the ten greatest sex scandals that shocked the football world.

 

10. Dwight Yorke And Mark Bosnich

Dwight Yorke And Mark Bosnich In 1998 Manchester United’s Dwight Yorke and Aston Villa’s Mark Bosnich rigged a house with a hidden camera in order to tape their acts with four women.

 

 

A sex scandal was already enough to cause a stir in England, but the two footballers took the act to a whole new level, they shot a number of compromising positions, and the tape also had the two footballers dressed in women’s clothing. Bosnich was even filmed being spanked while wearing a skirt. The story would have never gone public had he destroyed the tape, but instead, he chose to throw it in the trash, where it was found by a journalist.

9. George Best

 

The Manchester United legend, in 1970 was caught by his then manager Wilf McGuinness while Best was having sex with a prostitute. It was at the team hotel, United were scheduled to play Leeds in the FA Cup semifinal that very day.

 

 

Best was only allowed to play after Sir Matt Busby intervened, and in his, autobiography Best stated that it wasn’t the smartest thing to do, as he fell over the ball when he had the chance to score the winner.

 

8. Ronaldo

 

 

Brazilian legend Ronaldo was caught with three transvestite prostitutes in a hotel room in Rio De Janeiro.

Ronnie then tried to send the men away by money, but one of the prostitutes tried to blackmail him into paying more, the altercation was finally resolved when police intervened. Ronaldo’s girlfriend called off their engagement, even though the two later reunited.

 

7. Wayne Rooney

The England striker has been in news about his visits to massage parlours during his time at Everton, he was caught on CCTV camera during a visit to a local brothel.

 

 

The Manchester United star allegedly encountered a grandmother dressed in a rubber catsuit. Even after he got married and had a child, Rooney was accused by two hookers of having a threesome with them.

 

6. John Terry

The former England captain was caught in one of the most controversial sex scandals of all time, when the news of him having impregnated former England, teammate, Wayne Bridge’s ex broke out.

 

 

The four-month alleged affair though, never proven caused a stir between the two players and Bridge retired from international football citing reasons that it was impossible for him to play with Terry.

The Chelsea captain also had his national team captaincy stripped off.

 

5. Jay Hart

 

Even the lower league clubs and players have been involved in sex scandals, it was made evident when Jay Hart, a semi-professional player who played for Clitheroe FC in the Evo-Stik Division 1 North was caught having sex with an unidentified fan in the dugout after a match at Mossley AFC.

Hart was still wearing his uniform while participating in the act, he was subsequently fired by the club.

 

 

His girlfriend Bryony Hibbert, with whom he has two kids took to the Clitheroe Facebook Page to vent her anger at what she labelled as a “disgusting” act.

“Have a bit of decency for the people it’s affected, Thank God my kids are too young to read. It’s disgusting. I bet their families are far from perfect.” she said in a post which was later removed.

 

4. Frank Ribery, Sidney Govou and Karim Benzema

The three French internationals were caught in a scandal in 2010 when it was alleged that they had sex with an underage prostitute.

 

 

It is claimed that the prostitute Zahia Deher was 16 years old when the incident took place, she has since come out in defence of the accused players, stating that they should not be put to trial as they treated her with respect and that they did not know about her actual age.

Ribery and Benzema have since been cleared of all the charges due to lack of evidence.

 

3. Stan Collymore

 

 

The former England star was caught in the act of “dogging” by two reporters in 2004. Dogging is an act of having sex with strangers in parking lots.

Collymore was married at the time, but his wife accepted his apology, but this was not enough to save his job as a commentator with BBC Five Live.

 

2. Ashley Cole

Ashley Cole was married to Cheryl Tweedy in 2006 and by 2008, a hairdresser claimed that Cole had an affair with her. The Chelsea star apologized to his wife, but four new cheating allegations came up in the next two years.

 

 

Just two weeks before the start of the 2010 World Cup, Cheryl had filed for divorce and Cole finally managed to break the heart of one of England’s hottest pop stars.

 

1. Ryan Giggs

 

 

Ryan Giggs was one of the most admired footballer in the world, but in 2011 a UK MP named Giggs in the parliament after he had taken out an injunction to avoid the news of his affair with reality TV star Imogen Thomas from breaking out in the media.

Giggs was then caught in another controversy as his sister-in-law claimed that he had an affair with her for over eight years. Though Giggs managed to save his wedding, the scandal managed to shatter his public image and his relationship with his family.
