Francesco Totti has signed a new contract with AS Roma for one more season with the Serie A side.

The forward and long-time club captain will turn 40 on September 27 but will play on for a 25th season. He has set club records of 758 appearances and 304 goals.

According to the club’s website, Totti said, “I really wanted this contract, it represents the realisation of my dream. I always wanted to end my career having only worn one shirt, the Roma one.

“After speaking with the president, I am even more convinced that, working together, we can achieve great things.” The new contract is for one year as a player followed by a six-year deal as the Giallorossi’s technical director,” Totti said.

James Pallotta, the club president said, “ It’s quite fitting that on the anniversary of the day AS Roma was founded [June 7, 1927], Francesco Totti has signed a new playing contract.

“No one has played more games or scored more goals for this football club than Francesco Totti and we’re delighted that he will continue for one more season”, he said.

Pallotta also hopes that Totti’s final run with the club will usher in a new era for Roma.

Not shirking from setting a record straight, Totti mentioned his hope to win his second Scudetto with Roma.
