Kylian Mbappe reportedly wanted to make a switch to La Liga giants Barcelona during the summer transfer window and did not want to join Paris Saint-Germain.
Mbappe displayed incredible form for AS Monaco last season and guided them to Ligue 1 triumph and also into the semi-finals of the Champions League.
He scored 26 goals in all competitions last season and was one of the most sought after players during the summer transfer window.
His red-hot form last term saw him smashing a number of records – including being the first player in history to score in his first four Champions League knockout appearances.
He was under the radar of top-flight European clubs and initially Monaco were reluctant to sell the wonder-kid.
Arsenal, Real Madrid and Barcelona all were keen to secure his services but PSG won the race and signed him on a loan move with an obligation to buy him permanently for £162million next summer.
However, Spanish radio station Cadena Cope have now claimed Mbappe always wanted to move to Barcelona and not PSG.
Football agent Josep Maria Minguella told the show that Mabppe had his heart set a move to the Nou Camp and had snubbed a move to their arch rivals Real Madrid as he felt he would not get regular game-time at the Brenabeu.
According to reports, Mbappe’s dad had informed Barcelona that they were the only club he wanted to join and the Catalan giants had the opportunity to rope him in for an initial transfer fee of £107m plus £27m in add-ons.
But the Barca bosses opted to sign Osumane Dembele from Borussia Dortmund on a club-record fee and Mbappe had no option left but to join PSG.
Mbappe has made history again this week during PSG’s 3-0 win over Anderlecht – becoming the highest-scoring teenager in the Champions League.
