Marc Bartra Undergoes Surgery After Terror Attack On Borussia Dortmund’s Team-Bus
BVB star Marc Bartra was hospitalized after getting injured in the explosion and underwent a surgery.
Borussia Dortmund’s team bus was the subject of a ‘targeted attack’ in a bomb explosion on Tuesday.
Around 7 p.m. local time, in the Hoechsten district of Dortmund, shortly after the departure of the Borussia Dortmund team bus from the hotel to the stadium Signal Iduna Park for the UEFA Champions League quarter-final against French side AS Monaco, three explosions happened near the bus, damaging the vehicle’s windows.
Soon after the incident, Borussia Dortmund said its Champions League match against Monaco scheduled for Tuesday evening was put off until Wednesday.
Marc Bartra has undergone surgery the club confirmed on their website, “We’re all in shock and our thoughts are with Marc,” said captain Marcel Schmelzer, adding: “We hope that he will make a speedy recovery.” The prevailing mood in the Black and Yellow camp seems to be “to play the match tomorrow for Marc.”
Bartra was the only player injured in the terror attack, which happened as the team bus left the hotel for the stadium ahead of the Champions League quarter-final clash against Monaco.
“Marc Bartra has been taken to the hospital. He hurt himself on the hand,” the club chief executive Hans-Joachim Watzke said.
“We then contacted the security delegates and colleagues from Monaco. The game will be played tomorrow at 18:45CET. The tickets remain valid.”
