Mexico Can Host A Third World Cup, Says FMF President Decio de Maria
According to Mexican sports daily Cancha, De Maria said Mexico will present its candidacy in the next FIFA Congress.
“Yes, we have a dream. This dream is to organize again a World Cup. We have four years to work on it. This means beginning from next Monday, at the end of the current FIFA Congress, we will begin working to reach our dream,” he said.
De Maria’s statement was made on the sideline of the FIFA Congress being hosted by Mexico City.
“Hopefully, in the next Congress to be held in 2020, Mexico will be present and maybe our dream will come true. Then we will have six more years to plan and organize the 2026 World Cup,” he added.
Mexico has expressed its interest to host its third World Cup in its history. The Mexican soccer authorities also said they are willing to accept a shared candidacy with the United States.
