Wenger is keen on signing the 21-year-old winger but Ligue 1 champions Monaco have set an asking price of £80m for the French star in order to fend off clubs that are interested in securing his signatures this summer.

Wenger is confident that a deal can be completed and sources reveal that the Premier League club have finally made a breakthrough.

Arsene Wenger looks to have finally landed Thomas Lemar

Arsenal has already had bids turned down for the French winger as Monaco had slapped a hefty price tag on their player they roped in from Caen two years ago.

Monaco had hoped that a huge asking price for Lemar would fend off Arsenal and help them to keep their player for one more season.

But sources now claim that Monaco have softened their stance as Lemar wants to leave the club.

FootTheBall had earlier revealed that Lemar has agreed personal terms with Arsenal and askedthe Monaco bosses to allow him to make a switch to the North London club this summer.

Earlier, Monaco were not willing to sell Lemar, having sold key players to top Premier League clubs this summer. It was thought that they would put an end to their player exodus in a bid to defend the Ligue 1 title.
