Villas Boas Takes Over Shanghai SIPG Post From Goran Eriksson

Andre Villas-Boas has been announced as the new boss of Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG.

Villas-Boas will earn approximately £11 million-a-year for the role in China, as the CSL continues to attract Europe’s big talent with the help of it’s billionaire owners.

Shanghai are looking to dethrone reigning champions Guangzhou Evergrande and have signed the Portuguese tactician for the job.

“Andre Villas-Boas is the leading young manager in European football, with a huge amount of passion and coaching experience,” a Shanghai SIPG statement read.

“We are convinced his arrival will enrich the tactical nous of the team, unearth the potential of our young talents and guide our club to scale new heights.”

Goran Eriksson left the club after guiding the club to a third position finish in the Chinese Super League this season and Villas-Boas arrived after the former departure.

Shanghai SIPG are hoping to mount a serious challenge for the title in the coming season after they finished 12 points adrift of the Guangzhou Evergrande.

Even big signings and huge sum of money spent in the transfer window didn’t help much.

Shanghai bought star Hulk for a record £49 million and his compatriot Elkeson for £16 million.

Andre Villas-Boas returns to management after a successful stint in Russia, where he led Zenit St Petersburg for two years.

He won both the Russian Cup and a league title with Zenit during his two year stint at the club.

Villas-Boas was linked with but the club were in favour of Lazio’s Stefano Pioli, while he was alse touted to take over at Wolfsburg who are currently without a permanent manager.

Villas-Boas was said to be learning German but all that has now been put to rest as he embarks on a new journey in the filthy rich CSL.
