Chelsea Star Urges Teammates Not To Get Carried Away In Race For The Premier League Title

Chelsea star defender David Luiz has advised his teammates to stay grounded in the race for the title after they humiliated Everton 5-0 on Saturday, according to foottheball sources.

david-luizThe Brazilian defender, who returned to Chelsea from Ligue 1 giants PSG for a whooping £34m this summer, has now started all the last seven league games for Blues after replacing injured John Terry.

Luiz said: “We just want to go match by match, we don’t want to speak about the future. It’s important to keep our feet on the ground and have humility, that’s the key.”

Chelsea sits second in the Premier League table after 11 games and are one point behind league leaders Liverpool.

chelseaAfter defeats against big-guns Liverpool and Arsenal, Conte has now brought things under control with his 3-4-3 system at Chelsea. Chelsea have now won all their last five matches after a series of brilliant performances.

The Chelsea defence have proved their mettle and earned clean sheets in all their last five wins. The switch up in formation by new boss Antonio Conte has been a blessing in disguise. The Blues have grown stronger in their new 3-4-3 style, which had also helped them to humiliate Manchester United and their old boss Jose Mourinho after a 4-0 win at Old Trafford.

conteConte said: “Now it is important to look at ourselves, not at the others and think we can do this or this. It’s important to improve and to work together. Then we can see in the future what happens.”

With no European football this season, Conte’s main focus would be to challenge for the Premier League title and more importantly to earn a Champions League qualification for the next season.

Gary Cahill has branded the 5-0 win over Everton as more exciting than any of the games from the 2014/15 title-winning season.

cahill-chelsea“I remember us beating Swansea 5-0 away (January 2015), but that was a case of us taking our chances in front of goal,” said the England defender,” said Cahill.

“Against Everton, the overall performance was really good as well as the goals, some of which were unbelievable.”

“It was a devastating performance, one of the best I have been involved in, in a long, long time.”
