AC Milan Back Vincenzo Montella After Roma Loss Amid Carlo Ancelotti Links

AC Milan director Massimiliano Mirabelli accentuated that the club is backing under-fire manager Vincenzo Montella following back-to-back Serie A defeats amid rumours of Carlo Ancelotti’s return.

Montella’s revamped Milan succumbed to another defeat on Sunday, and this time outplayed by Serie A title rivals and visitors Roma 2-0 at San Siro.

Milan were down to ten men as Hakan Calhanoglu received a second yellow card in the 80th minute on Sunday – and Montella is now facing the heat after already suffering three defeats in seven Serie A games this season.

Ancelotti, who had a successful stint at Milan – guiding them to to Serie A, Champions League, Coppa Italia, Supercoppa Italiana, UEFA Super Cup and Club World Cup titles – has been sacked by Bayern Munich on Thursday and has been now linked with a return to the San Siro, but Mirabelli backed Montella after the game.

“We are only seven rounds in, we have a new team, so no coach has a magic wand,” Mirabelli told Sky Sport Italia.

“You can’t get certain results straight away. We have a group of players who need to become a team, so as far as we are concerned, Montella is working well. We just have to hope that work brings important results.”

“We must try not to look at the table. Roma have a well-drilled unit who have been playing together for years. It’s not easy to face them and do as well as Milan did. We see positives in this defeat too.”

Mian sit seventh in the Serie A table, nine points behind league leaders Napoli as they head into the international break.
