Italian football giants AC Milan have appointed Serbian Sinisa Mihajlovic as their new coach, removing Filippo Inzaghi on Tuesday after just a season in charge and despite having a year left on his contract.
AC Milan finished a disappointing 10th in Serie A, which will keep them out of European football for another season after being away from the elite circuit this season for finishing eighth the previous year.
Former Yugoslavia defender Mihajlovic, 46, left rival Italian club Sampdoria earlier this month after two years in charge. He has signed a contract until 30 June, 2017. He had earlier coached Italian clubs Bologna, Catania and Fiorentina.
” AC Milan communicate that Filippo Inzaghi has been discharged of his responsibilities as first team coach. The club thank him for his work,” said a statement from the club.
“Sinisa Mihajlovic is the new coach of AC Milan, after signing a two-year contract. The club wishes him all the best in tems of work and results.”
AC Milan have won 18 Serie A titles and seven European Cups.
