Arsene Wenger is desperate to bolster his options at the back and is keen on signing the former Manchester United star defender Jonny Evans this summer, according to FootTheBall sources.
Rumours suggest that Arsenal are looking forward to launch a bid in the region of £15million in order to secure the signatures of Jonny Evans from West Brom.
Wenger had earlier revealed that he is a bit sceptical about the whooping amount of cash splurged by clubs and he made it clear that he is willing to spend the extra cash on signing a defender to add strength to the existing back-line.
Wenger have had dealt with injury woes in the last few seasons and recent news claim confirm that Arsenal will miss their star defender Per Mertesacker for up to five months due to a knee injury that he pulled in a pre-season friendly against Lens.
And, according to FootTheBall sources, the legendary Arsenal manager has set his eyes on a 28-year-old Northern Ireland defender, to fill the void this summer.
After leaving Manchester United, Evans became an immediate fan favourite at West Brom as he lived up to the expectations of the club.
He proved his mettle in the international stage as he played a pivotal role in guiding Northern Ireland into the last 16 of Euro 2016, before losing against Wales.
Reports suggest that West Brom manager Tony Pulis believes that Evans has been consistent enough, both in the domestic and international circuit, which has increased his market value since joining the Baggies.
Arsenal has also been linked with Valencia central defender Shkodran Mustafi and Federico Fernandez, who plays in the same position at the Premier League side Swansea City.
However, FootTheBall understands that Wenger has a huge void to fill and hewould look forward to rope in a more experienced Evans to complete the jigsaw puzzle.
