Augsburg vs Dortmund preview

The lifeline has been thrown and it is now up to the Black and Yellows to make history. Borussia Dortmund control their own destiny now in the race for the Bundesliga title after Bayern Munich collapsed at home to RB Leipzig.

With two games remaining, Dortmund will become Bundesliga Champions if they win both. With effectively two finals coming up, Augsburg is the first hurdle in their path to history.

Augsburg have struggled this season, lying in 14th place, just three points away from a relegation playoff place. On paper, this fixture should be a banker Dortmund win.

However, Edin Terzic’s men have shown fragility this season sometimes when a result is needed at all costs. Moreover, their away form has been a lot worse than their home form, where they look formidable.

With all that said and done, it can be argued that Dortmund will never have a better shot at winning the title on which Bayern have had a stronghold for the last decade. Considering that, the “Echte Liebe” Dortmund need to step up here.

Here’s the Augsburg vs Dortmund prediction, team news, lineups, and more-

Augsburg vs Dortmund lineups

Augsburg predicted lineup

Right-Back Robert Gumny’s suspension will hurt Augsburg’s chances as he is set to miss this clash after an accumulation of yellow cards. He has played 1972 minutes in the league this season.

The defensive trio of Felix Uduokhai, Jeffrey Gouweleeuw, and Maximilian Bauer should continue from their previous game. Between the posts will be Tomas Koubek, who is deputising for injured first-choice GK Rafal Gikiewicz.

A midfield four of Mads Pedersen, Elvis Rexhbecaj, Carlos Gruezo and Arne Maier will look to stop the overtures of Jude Bellingham and Co.

The attacking workload should be carried by the trio of Mergim Berisha, Ermedin Demirovic, and Dion Beljo.

Predicted Augsburg lineup: Koubek, Uduokhai, Gouweleeuw, Bauer, Pedersen, Rexhbecaj, Gruzeo, Maier, Berisha, Demirovic, Beljo.

Dortmund predicted lineup

Borussia Dortmund have been flying recently. Their last two games have seen them score 11 goals and concede two. Therefore, it is highly unlikely that head coach Edin Terzin makes any changes barring late injuries. Real Madrid-bound Jude Bellingham, however, is exactly that. Dortmund will now have to prove the can get a result without their midfield talisman.

Gregor Kobel is the undisputed first choice in goal. Mats Hummels and Niklas Sule will be the two man mountains in the centre of defence. Marius Wolf and Ryerson on either side round up the defence.

As the season enters its crunch time, Bellingham has been in inspired form. He has three goals in his last two games and Dortmund will need to play well by committee to account for his absence. Salih Ozcan might come in for the England international if Terzic opts for a defensive change. He will be partnered with Emre Can and Julian Brandt.

The youthful duo of Donyell Malen and Karim Adeyemi will play alongside Sebastien Haller in attack, who found form in the last game with a brace.

Predicted Dortmund lineup: Kobel, Wolf, Sule, Hummels, Ryerson, Can, Bellingham, Brandt, Adeyemi, Malen, Haller.

Augsburg vs Dortmund prediction

Regardless of Augsburg’s position in the table, this is bound to be a nervy fixture. Bayern Munich’s loss has raised the stakes for this one and it will be interesting to see how Dortmund’s youthful side handles it.

Moreover, Augsburg are not completely safe from relegation yet so expect their home crowd to come out in fine voice.

Having said that, Borussia Dortmund are still the far stronger side on paper, with momentum behind them. This is a golden opportunity to end Bayern’s dominance and they would be remiss to not give their all and beyond for the remaining two games.

FootTheBall predicts Augsburg 1-3 Dortmund.
