Barcelona’s veteran defensive midfielder Javier Mascherano is attracting interest from the filthy-rich Chinese Super League.
Mascherano had received multiple bumper offers from CSL clubs during the summer transfer window, but the 32-year-old resisted any potential move to stay put at Camp Nou.
The Argentine international has however, found his playing-time reduced this season after the arrival of Samuel Umtiti from Lyon, and Barcelona are already making moves for potential replacement for Mascherano.
Mascherano signed a new three-year extension with Barcelona amid Chinese interest earlier this summer, but a huge contract offer might just be able to lure the former West Ham star.
However, the Camp Nou starlet has previously stated his desire to end his career at boyhood club River Plate, back in Argentina, something which can flush the Chinese dreams of landing the 32-year-old superstar down the drain.
Mascherano has enjoyed a fruitful spell at the Catalan club, winning 4 La Liga tites, 3 Copa del Rey’s, 2 UEFA Super Cups, 2 FIFA Club World Cup’s and 2 Champions League medals during his 6-year tenure.
If Mascherano were to leave, he will be the second experienced and over 30 player to do so, after Dani Alves who left Barcelona for Italian giants Juventus this summer on a free transfer.
