Sao Paulo has signed highly rated Chinese teenager Zhang Yuanshu on loan, the Brazilian club said on Monday.
Zhang impressed Sao Paulo scouts while playing for Desportivo Brasil in the second division of the Sao Paulo state league and the Sao Paulo Cup.
The 19-year-old has scored 11 goals in 40 appearances for Desportivo, whom he joined as part of an exchange program with Chinese Super League club Shandong Luneng.
Two other Shandong Luneng players – Yu Ming Zeng and Duan Liuyu – are also in Desportivo’s squad.
Known by his teammates as Oscar, in reference to the Brazil international midfielder whom the youngster models his game upon, Zhang will remain at Sao Paulo until the end of the year.
He will initially play with Sao Paulo’s under-20 team but club officials have not ruled out the prospect of a senior call-up.
